A couple of Challenge Entries

Hi Peeps, it's been a while since I posted on here, but I've a couple of projects to share with you today.

A short while ago my lovely crafting pal Kathy let me know the name of a stamp set she'd used on a card I was admiring.  She then sent me a link to the set for a good price, of course another set jumped into my basket whilst browsing the site oopsie !  The 'accidentally' (ahem) purchased set was Stampers' Anonymous 'Flower Garden' CMS215'.

When I 'fessed up to kathy, she said that was on her must-have list so headed off to purchase it.  She then told her pal Sarn what she'd bought and (just like a crafters pass-the-parcel) Sarn also purchased a set. Then she thought that as all three of us had the same stamp set, it might be nice to challenge me, kathy and herself to create a project using the set.  Oh what fun !

My set took a little longer to arrive than theirs so there has been a slight delay with makes, but I've now been busy.  Do click on the links in the above paragraph to check out both of their fabulous creations.

Although there are quite a few different flowers in the set, the favourite of all of us is the Cone Flower, so this is the one we've all used.

For my first card, I decided to use a water colour background technique that is new to me - pressing a Distress Ink pad onto a piece of acetate, spritzing with water then smooshing it onto the card/watercolour paper, drying each colour before adding the next.

DI's used : Mowed Lawn, Mustard Seed, Spiced Marmalade

Once dry I stamped the cone flower over the background using black Archival ink.  I then painted it using Fossilised Amber, Carved Pumpkin, Spiced Marmalade and Forest Moss for the stem and used Forest Moss to apply colour through a That's Crafty Dinky Stencil all over.  I then added a sentiment stamped directly over the background using a Rubber Necker stamp from their Freehand Frame Phrase set 900.  Swiped the black ink pad around the edges and attached to a black 5x5 base card.

I was fairly pleased with finished card, but felt the background was a little too colourful and busy.  So I made another, this time using just Mustard Seed through the stencil.  The cone flower was coloured with the same DIs as the previous card

I think I prefer this version of the background.  The sentiment is from a set which I think was a magazine freebie.  Before attaching the painted panel to the black base card, I used another of my new stash items - Gansai Tambi Starry colours, using the Red Gold, applied through the same dinky stencil.

There we go then, two cards using the same tools and materials.  I hope both Kathy and Sarn are happy that I've managed to join in with the challenge at last.

Thanks for dropping by.

More new stash playing...

More new stash items were calling to me and I was too weak to resist Ha Ha.

I'd watched some videos recently on Yupo paper used with Alcohol Inks and decided I just had to get some Yupo and have a go myself.   I bought Ranger brand but there are other makes available.

It's fun to watch how the inks react/interact on the Yupo and I'll be experimenting with other colours later.

I used part of the background I created and added stamping using the Carabelle 'Ville d'oilleurs : Zitenkia' set which I've had in my stash for a while.  I then used a new Sweet Poppy Stencil and black Stazon ink to add the larger image.  Then Layered the background onto a slightly larger piece of black cartstock.

Using a die from my new Seth Apter 'Drip Drop' set and black cardstock I diecut the 'drippy' ring then rubbed on a little Treasure Gold and added it to the background framing the stencilled image.  I used a white Posca Pen to add a few highlights and to draw a line around the background attached to the black layer.

Finally I used a new sentiment die (gift from a lovely pal) to cut out 'Enjoy' from white cardstock and attached it over the frame.

I enjoyed playing with Yupo and have the other piece of the background to use on another project.

Thanks for popping by to check out my latest project, hope you enjoyed seeing it.

Trying out new stash....

I've been trying out some of my new stash acquisitions recently and for today's project I used one of my new inkpads.  I'm loving the Hero Arts Ombre and Neon Ombre inkpads and this Neon yellow is so vibrant.  I also used a sentiment stamp from the SU! Botanicals For You set I picked up for a bargain price at the first ever Sincerely Yours Craft Show held in Plymouth recently.  It is so frustrating for those of us living in the SouthWest that we have to travel miles to visit a craft show, I was excited when I read that SY was venturing down here, I hope they come back here again and do another show.

For the image I used the Visible Image INKcognito Flower stamp set and a splats stamp from another VI set.  I then mounted the image layer over a slightly larger piece of coloured SU! card and then cut a frame using two sizes of die from my Crealies No 24 set of stitched rectangles.  I stamped the sentiment using SU! Early Espresso ink onto another scrap of the linen effect cardstock using for the layers and frame.

A simple design but I am pleased with the finished result.

Thanks for dropping by, I hope you've enjoyed seeing todays project.  I've more new things to play with and hope to share more projects with you soon.
